Here are three of the most difficult challenges that family caregivers may encounter when looking after their elderly parents or loved ones.

Home Care Services Marietta, GA

Poor Sleep

As people age, their sleep patterns can be disrupted, causing them to wake up multiple times during the night. This can be due to a shift in their internal body clock, stress, or worry. If dementia is a factor, you may need to be vigilant, as sundowning and wandering could occur. Caring for your parents or a loved one requires a clear and rested mind, which is why getting enough sleep is essential for both your well-being and your ability to provide the best care. After all, you don't want to get so burnt out and tired that you take a trip to the hospital. Avoid getting burnt out and exhausted, as it could lead to a trip to the hospital.

Elderly Care Marietta, GA

Lack of Support

Taking care of aging parents can feel overwhelming and like you're shouldering the entire brunt of responsibility. Moreover, thinking that you're the sole caregiver can be stressful and put unneeded strain on other relationships in your life. It's crucial to understand that caregiving is not a one-person task. Trying to handle it alone can lead to burnout, depression, and other serious health issues. It can also negatively impact the quality of care your parents receive.

Senior Assistance Marietta, GA

No Privacy

Living with your parents can affect both your physical and emotional privacy, especially if one or both need significant amounts of attention. This can lead to feelings of fear and disorientation when you're not around. Similarly, it can be challenging for your parents to maintain their own privacy while you're taking care of them.

The 24-hour dining options outside the perimeter are extremely limited, but Marietta Diner on Cobb Parkway near the Big Chicken has been the place for 24/7 OTP eating since 1995. The Greek diner includes an impressively large menu to satisfy any craving, and that includes around-the-clock breakfast dishes. Try the grilled cheese, gyros, patty melt, or any of the open-faced sandwiches. There’s also fried chicken and fried catfish.

Since 1998, Georgia Diner has been a go-to in Duluth for burgers, pancakes and waffles, club sandwiches, pasta, Greek food, and cakes by the slice at all hours. While the restaurant is no longer open for dining 24/7 (it closes at 11 p.m.), people can still order takeout and delivery from Georgia Diner any time of day or night. The kitchen never closes. Georgia Diner’s dining room and drive-thru window both open for service at 8 a.m. daily and close at 11 p.m.

The gourmet doughnut shop, owned by baker Kamal Grant, is open 24/7 for doughnuts, ice cream, and coffee at two locations: on the edge of the Georgia Tech campus on 10th Street, and another at Briarcliff Road. Flavors change frequently here, but expect doughnuts like s’mores, Nestle crunch, A-town mocha, salt and vinegar, and red velvet to be on the menu.

Even though the name suggests this restaurant is open 24 hours, it closes at 5 a.m. to restock for a few hours until 9 a.m. Head here for late-night cravings of all-you-can-eat Korean barbecue, ramen, and many other Korean comfort dishes, like beef bulgogi and kimchi fried rice, on Satellite Boulevard. Open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Who couldn’t use a comforting bowl of hot pho and a pot of tea at 1 a.m.? Pho 24 on Buford Highway is open nearly 24 hours a day for bowls of pho and banh mi sandwiches. The restaurant closes briefly in the early morning to make more pho broth and restock the menu for the day.

There’s an automated pizzeria where pepperoni and cheese pizzas are served in just three minutes by robotic arm 24/7 from a gas station in Buckhead. Called PizzaForno, each 10-inch pie costs between $10 and $13 and can be purchased hot or cold to bake at home. A piping hot box containing your pizza pops out of the machine a few minutes after ordering like money from an ATM. But how do these AI-baked pizzas taste? That’s a matter of opinion, and likely depends on the time of day you’re ordering, because at 3 a.m. after a night out on the town, does it really matter?

The Landmark Diner in Buckhead is “where the stars meet at night”. But, really, it’s where people meet up for late-night bites and coffee, especially following an evening of bar hopping or an event in town. Landmark is fashioned after the traditional northeastern diners with a large menu of breakfast, burgers, fried foods, and sandwiches. There’s also a 24/7 location on Luckie Street in downtown Atlanta.

Mama’s Cocina Latina on Piedmont Road in the Piedmont Heights neighborhood serves a mix of comfort foods and familiar Mexican dishes like tortas, tacos, burritos, and tostadas. Grab late-night hot wings, fajitas for one, two, or three people, or a grande dinner platter with two enchiladas, a taco, rice, and beans. The platter is hovers around $10. For breakfast, try the huevos rancheros or Mama’s breakfast with scrambled eggs, pancakes, and bacon. There’s also a drive-thru window open 24/7.

Metro Cafe Diner opened in downtown Atlanta’s Peachtree Center in 2006. This is where to head for breakfast fare, wings, classic burgers, and even baby back ribs and platters of spaghetti at any hour. Currently, the restaurant closes at 4 a.m. (5:30 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays) to restock and refresh the menu, before returning to all-day and all-night dining at 6 a.m. Hours are extended when conventions and larger crowd events are in town. Metro Cafe Diner also includes a location open late in Stone Mountain.

There’s not much more to say about this Atlanta-based restaurant institution. Atlantans know where to head for 24/7 smothered, covered, and scattered hash browns, waffles, and plenty of coffee paired with some seriously amazing people-watching, especially into the wee hours of the morning. Some locations are no longer open 24 hours. Check individual Waffle House locations for current hours.

Located in Forest Park next to a BP gas station, Las Tortas Ahogadas is where to head for tacos, flautas, chilaquiles, and burritos at any time of day. You can also order delivery from 11:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

MARIETTA, Ga. — Marietta Water has issued a boil water advisory after a water main break on Lawrence Street near Covington Avenue caused portions of the water system to lose pressure on Friday night. Marietta officials said on Sunday that additional water main breaks also happened at Lakewood Drive and Parkview Drive but did not require a boil water advisory or pose a concern about water safety in the area.

As of Sunday afternoon, all water mains have been successfully repaired, but the boil water advisory is still in effect for the area around Lawrence Street and Covington Avenue.

The advisory applies to areas impacted by low water pressure or outages. Officials say the issue could lead to a potential health hazard due to backflow or back-siphonage of water of unknown quality into the system.

What you need to know:

How to boil water safely:

Officials added that broken water main lines could cause discolored water in the area where the break happened and in other areas of the system due to changes in the directional flow of water caused by the break.

"For customers outside of the Lawrence St. and Covington Ave. Boil Water Advisory mapped area, this is not a health concern but simply an aesthetic issue caused by the iron in the pipes and may take a couple of days to work itself out," the City of Marietta wrote in a social media post.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) notes that boiled or bottled water is not necessary for activities such as laundry or dishwashing, provided these are done correctly.

What happens next: The advisory will remain in effect until Marietta Water completes testing to confirm the water is safe to drink.

Updates will be posted on the City of Marietta’s Facebook page and website. Officials urge residents to stay informed and follow safety recommendations.

Historic home for sale for $1, but there's a catch

One of the oldest homes in metro Atlanta is on the market for just one dollar. At one time the house in Cobb County was the headquarters for a Union brigadier general during the Civil War.

The Brief

One of the oldest homes in Cobb County is on the market for just one dollar. Built in the 1840s, Cobb Landmarks' executive director says the McAfee House is filled with history.

"It was a Union headquarters for General Kenner Garrard," said executive director Trevor Beemon.

Beemon says it was also used as a Confederate field hospital.

"There are stories in old newspaper articles that there are reportedly blood stains in the floorboards from when the house was used as a field hospital," said Beemon.

Over the years, the house has been remodeled, most recently in the 70s, but still has a lot of the original structure.

"The house is solid as a rock when you walk through it. All the framing is timber, it's heart pine, old growth wood. A lot of that has been concealed over the years with paneling and wallpaper, and things like that, but when you peel them back, they're all still visible," said Beemon.

Originally, this home sat on a couple of hundred acres of farmland. That land at the corner of Bell's ferry and Barrett Parkway has now been whittled down to just a couple of acres and some outbuildings.

In an effort to save the house, Cobb Landmarks is putting it on the market for just one dollar. Whoever buys it will have to move it off the property and agree to preserve the history.

"We want to make sure that the renovations they do respect the historic integrity of the exterior of the house," said Beemon.

Anyone interested in buying and moving the house would have to submit an application by Jan. 17. A committee will review the applications. Whoever is selected will have to move the house by May 15.

"Whoever ends up with the house, when they start peeling back the layers, who knows what they might find," said Beemon.
