Home Care Services Duluth, GA

Poor Sleep

As people age, their sleep patterns can be disrupted, causing them to wake up multiple times during the night. This can be due to a shift in their internal body clock, stress, or worry. If dementia is a factor, you may need to be vigilant, as sundowning and wandering could occur. Caring for your parents or a loved one requires a clear and rested mind, which is why getting enough sleep is essential for both your well-being and your ability to provide the best care. After all, you don't want to get so burnt out and tired that you take a trip to the hospital. Avoid getting burnt out and exhausted, as it could lead to a trip to the hospital.

Elderly Care Duluth, GA

Lack of Support

Taking care of aging parents can feel overwhelming and like you're shouldering the entire brunt of responsibility. Moreover, thinking that you're the sole caregiver can be stressful and put unneeded strain on other relationships in your life. It's crucial to understand that caregiving is not a one-person task. Trying to handle it alone can lead to burnout, depression, and other serious health issues. It can also negatively impact the quality of care your parents receive.

Senior Assistance Duluth, GA

No Privacy

Living with your parents can affect both your physical and emotional privacy, especially if one or both need significant amounts of attention. This can lead to feelings of fear and disorientation when you're not around. Similarly, it can be challenging for your parents to maintain their own privacy while you're taking care of them.

A new coffee shop is brewing in metro Atlanta.

Qamaria Yemeni Coffee is planned for 2645 N Berkeley Lake Road NW, bringing coffee, tea and pastries to the Duluth International Village shopping center.

“We want to create a friendly environment to all the people in Atlanta who want a spot to hang out or work late at night,” co-owner Wahaj Imam told What Now Atlanta.

They plan to be open late into the night, until at least 1 a.m. or later. Imam has experienced firsthand the need for a comfortable late-night hang-out spot. Imam is part of the team behind popular local photography company Chromalogue Studios. After finishing up a wedding at midnight or later, he’d find himself asking: What’s a good place to grab a beverage, sit down and take a load off? There are bars. There are hookah lounges. But with Qamaria Yemeni Coffee, they are looking to create a comfortable, family-friendly atmosphere for late-night socialization and relaxation that can appeal to all.

“Let’s plug into what we don’t have and create that space,” Imam said.

Qamaria Yemeni Coffee was founded by Hatem Al-Eidaroos and Munif Maweri. It started as a wholesale coffee business before expanding into the brick-and-mortar space with physical cafés.

The upcoming Duluth shop will be the largest of all Qamaria locations so far. Imam said he was drawn to the aesthetic of Qamaria, with the brand appealing to young professionals.

Finding the exact space in Duluth was a full-circle moment. In the fall of 2023, his sister got married. Shortly after the wedding, the family spent time together at Twoha’s Cafe, a coffee and dessert shop in Duluth.

“I was talking to my mother as we were coming out and saying, ‘Wouldn’t it be nice if we had a shop right here?'” he said.

They had spent several months searching for the perfect space. One potential location didn’t work out… but all hope was not lost. They ended up landing at the same plaza where the idea originally sparked, at Duluth International Village.

“We’re exactly where we hoped to be from the start,” Imam said.

They are targeting an August or September 2025 opening, giving them several months to ramp up for next year’s Ramadan, which will begin in mid-February 2026. Ramadan, a holy month for Muslims, encompasses prayer, reflection and fasting from dawn until sunset. During this time, Qamaria could be open even later.

“A lot of the night, we’re up on weekends, worshipping, socializing,” Imam said. “We want to provide a place for the community to go gather and socialize and enjoy each other’s company when they’re not fasting.”

The shops serve a variety of snacks and tea and coffee beverages, including signature items like Adeni chai and the honeycomb bread, which is filled with cream cheese and drizzled with honey.

While they are currently focused on getting the flagship store up and running, Imam said they hope to open more Qamaria locations around the area in the future, possibly in Marietta, bringing late-night beverages and eats to more metro Atlantans.

“We’re hoping to create a venue where people can have a safe space to socialize, enjoy some food and drinks and ultimately have this be their place to work or study or whatever it is,” he said.

The Brief

DULUTH, Ga. - One of Kohl’s Georgia department stores is preparing to shut its doors for good this weekend, as part of a larger strategy to improve the company's long-term outlook.

What we know:

The Kohl’s location at the Venture Pointe Shopping Center off Liddell Road in Duluth will close on Saturday, March 29, according to the store’s website. A message posted there reads: "This store will be closing soon. Our last day of business at this location will be Saturday, March 29th."

This is part of a broader move by Kohl’s to close 27 "underperforming" stores across 15 states by April. The company, which is based in Wisconsin, will still operate more than 1,100 locations nationwide after the closures.

PREVIOUS STORY: List: Kohl's to close 27 'underperforming' stores by April 2025

Kohl’s says it has notified employees and offered them either a "competitive severance package" or the opportunity to apply for other open positions within the company. However, the company has not disclosed how many workers are affected at the Duluth location or nationwide.

The backstory:

The store closures follow a period of prolonged financial decline for Kohl’s. The company has reported 11 consecutive quarters of declining sales and is looking to reset its trajectory under new leadership.

Retail industry veteran Ashley Buchanan, former CEO of Michaels, officially took over as Kohl’s CEO in January. He succeeded Tom Kingsbury, who will stay on as an adviser through May and retain his board seat until his retirement.

Big picture view:

Kohl’s is not alone in its struggle. The company joins a growing list of major retailers forced to shrink operations or file for bankruptcy protection as they try to navigate shifting consumer habits, rising costs, and a competitive retail landscape.

RELATED

The move is part of a broader push by Kohl’s to boost profitability and reshape its store footprint amid persistent challenges in the department store sector.

What's next:

While the Duluth store closes this Saturday, Kohl’s will continue to evaluate performance at other locations as part of its ongoing restructuring. Customers in the area will need to shop at other Kohl’s stores or online moving forward.

ACC is the abbreviation for Atlantic Coast Conference. To Greensboro, it might as well be short for Another Championship Cut.

The much-anticipated announcement finally came on Thursday. The ACC is moving its 2026 women’s basketball tournament from Greensboro to Duluth, Georgia, about 30 miles north of Atlanta. And while the tournament will be in Duluth, the conference is billing the location as “Greater Atlanta.” It will be held at the 13,000-seat Gas South Arena in Duluth.

“Women’s basketball is thriving, and we are delighted to bring the longest-running collegiate conference women’s basketball tournament to a new, state-of-the-art venue in our region, further enhancing the incredible success we have achieved with our partners in Greensboro,” ACC commissioner Jim Phillips said in a news release.

As of mid-morning Friday, there was no reference to the ACC women’s tournament on the webpage of Gwinnett Chamber, an organization that covers Duluth. There was also no word from the ACC on where the 2027 women’s tournament might be staged.

“Tournament Town,” as Greensboro has billed itself based on its tradition of hosting postseason events, has been home to 25 of the last 26 ACC women’s tourneys. But when Duke cut down the nets after beating NC State in the finals last month, there was no indication that the event would come back to the city next season.

A month later, the word was out. So was Greensboro.

“While we are disappointed to see the tournament leave for Georgia and Charlotte, we stay in contact with the ACC office about future dates, as Greensboro hosted a record breaking tournament this year,” said Richard Beard, president of the Greensboro Sports Foundation. “The fans love Greensboro! We look forward to hosting eight various ACC championships through 2029, including the Men’s Basketball tournament in 2027 and 2029.”

What it also means is that for the first time in a while, First Horizon Coliseum will not be hosting postseason basketball, men’s or women’s.

In the wake of the departure, Beard recalls what Greensboro did to make players and fans feel welcome.

“In 2000, Greensboro made the commitment to treat the ACC Women’s basketball tournament the same as when the men’s tournament plays in Greensboro,” he said. “We stayed true to our word for 25 out of 26 years, growing the ACC Women’s basketball tournament into the premier conference tournament in the country. School days and Fanfest were born in Greensboro and is copied by conferences throughout the country.”

And despite losing next year’s women’s tourney, there will be at least one women’s college basketball game in town next season.

Beard noted that the next women’s basketball season will open on Nov. 4 in First Horizon Coliseum with a nationally televised game between N.C. State and Tennessee.

“Greensboro remains committed to promoting and growing women’s basketball,” Beard said.
